Back From DragonCon
Back home now and exhausted. As always Dragon Con was amazing! I had a great time talking to and meeting hundreds of new people and catching up with my old friends. One of the highlights was getting to meet and hang out with Mark Meer who does the Voice of Shepard in the Mass Effect Games. When I am more coherent I may post a more detailed rundown of the convention, but for now I need sleep and mass doses of vitamin C.
The Foam armor held up better than I could have ever hoped. We wore the armors for most of Saturday and Sunday, did a lot of walking, running, climbing stairs, posing for photos and partying in them. Admittedly, I was rather drunk for a good portion of this time and was not even trying to be careful in avoiding damage to the suit. By the end of the weekend it only needed to be touched up with a black sharpie in a few small places where paint had gotten scratched off. (mostly under the arms on the sides) I would have to say that it passed with flying colors.
If anyone has or finds photos or Video of the Shepard costumes please let me know. I was hoping to get a proper photo shoot done while at the con but unfortunately it didn’t happen. As regular attendees know it can be difficult to plan for much of anything as you never know what is going to happen next at Dragon Con.

I got a few pics from johny from the 405th guys of you and the wife. thanks for the pointers you gave johny he past them on to me and I should have my suit done in a few weeks, you also inspired me and I’m almost have a complete halo reach suit finished for the game release next tuesday, made out of foam. Have a good time resting, last year I came home with swine flu.

Wow.
I’ve been inspired. Actually, 3 of my friends and I have been inspired. We have committed ourselves to making Mass Effects armors using your techniques (though not N7 armor, we don’t want to be copy cats). Thank you for what is essentially a tutorial.
We were thinking of using a hot knife on the foam to make precise cuts. Any experience using a hot knife on EVA foam?

would you be willing to make another set of the armor? maybe just the chest, arm pieces, and gloves? How much would you charge for that?

So, I’m thinking of using your process as a guideline for making my own set of N7 armor for next year’s NDK at Denver. I only want to ask what kind of glue you used and roughly how many packages of foam you went through (excluding the gun for now).

Hot glue for most all of it. About 5 packs per suit. (around 20 sheets)

Amazing work! I want to make my own femshep armor so badly, and had considered using really thick fabric, but this makes a lot of sense.

Damn, these are incredible armor pieces! It made me consider making a fully functional armor set based on one of the ME2 armor types, or maybe even the Colossus armor from ME1. What I mean by fully functional is a ceramic-impregnated Kevlar suit, but I think that just may be a bit beyond my skill. It sure would be cool to make though, and it really would be bullet-resistant!

I was looking up stuff for ME costumes and I came across your site.
Your costumes and props look amazing!!
I just wish I could make it like that (although I’ll be doing one of Garrus).
I’ll be browsing through your sites and the Bioweapons link but any chance you might give like a tutorial or tips on how you made that? Especially the lights on the armour and how you made props (although I wish I knew how you did it all!)… just amazing!

I’ve always wanted to be able to wear the N7 armor and you did an amazing job replicating it. How much would it cost for an entire suit? I was considering doing it myself but after I saw your How To on your other website I doubt I could pull it off.

That is… the sexiest thing I have seen all year. I’m hoping to build my own female armor before the ME3 launch. I absolutely taking on creative projects. Looking forward to your vids!

ok so i have a question/ (challenge?) have you thought of doing the N7 helmet? that would be an excellent finish to a wonderful set or armor. Big fan of your work, i am truly amazed at your skill in this
