Warhammer 40K Bolter

Just something I have been messing around with the last few days. Made entirely from EVA foam (just like my M8 Assault rifles) Rather than inserting a metal skeleton in this one I just hacked up and modded a Nerf gun for the core and handle.

Day 3 Progress: Still a lot of detailing/paint to add but the base of the gun is now finished. Scope is removable. The emblems will be sculpted/cast and attached last.

What do you put on the out side as a “hardening agent” or are you just painting the foam?

Are you, or have you thought about building the Space Marines armor (tactical or scout) to go along with your bolter?

Very cool. What nerf gun did you base it off of? I’m currently doing something similar to the base assembly of a Recon CS-6 gun and sheet styrene to get a working version of the ME2 C-6 Carnifex Hand Cannon.

    • Was a Maverick I believe. Cut, removed and sanded down the round barrel parts to make it flat.

You mentioned in a previous post that you sand down large areas with sandpaper and a block.
What grade sandpaper do you use?
I have tried various grits, and I can’t seem to get the EVA foam to become smooth, it always has a slightly frayed surface……any tips?

    Thanks! Excellent work!

This is great – i’m a HUGE 40k fan and intend to create my own suits/props some day. I’d love to see more 40k work by you.

If possible could you please do some more tutorials on your processes for the shaping/sculting/sanding of the foam?

Any chance we could get a rough template for this? I intend to go balls-to-the-wall and try to make some Iron Warriors or Plague Marine armor (likely Plague Marine for the zombie walk in Alexandria), and any help with the props like this would be welcome!
